What is claimed is:

Lignin-based adsorption materials for treatment of contaminated fluids, wherein the lignin adsorption material is a high molecular weight, crosslinked lignin residue (A), resulting from a steam pre-treatment process of a lignocellulosic residue followed by the removal of the major part of the cellulose and hemicellulose components.,

DESCRIPTION

This invention relates to lignin based materials having metal binding properties and their use in removing such compounds from contaminated waters. The materials show utility in the removal and/or recovery of metal from contaminated waters, such as industrial or municipal effluents.
