CLAIMS

We claim:

1. A process for preparing mono- or dialkyl ethers comprising: contacting a diol with an alkylating agent in an alcoholic solvent, in the presence of a catalyst that generates in situ, at a reaction temperature for a sufficient time to convert said diol to a corresponding alkyl ether.
