Weleda Gets CSR Award for Responsible Supply Chain Management with UEBT

SpecialChem - March 6th, 2017
Weleda AG has won the 2017 CSR Award of the German Federal Government in the special category of “Responsible Supply Chain Management”. This annual CSR Prize is awarding outstanding examples of social responsibility and responsible corporate management.

Supply of Natural Raw Materials

This year, a key factor in the jury’s decision was Weleda’s work to align their supply chains for natural raw materials with the Ethical BioTrade standard. At Weleda, the UEBT standard is the guiding principle for sustainability management, which ensures compliance with ecological and social standards in supply chains.

The jury, composed of members of the National CSR Forum of the Federal Government, was particularly impressed by Weleda’s work to tailor its approach to each country, taking into account local infrastructure and living conditions on the ground.

Contribution to Improve Biodiversity

After winning the Swiss Ethics Award 2016 (April 2016), the Sustainable Beauty Award 2016 (October 2016) and the German Sustainability Award 2016 (November 2016) as Germany’s most sustainable brand, the CSR Prize is the fourth major sustainability award for Weleda within one year.

The company is working on a complete traceability and focusing on training internal auditors. Weleda contributes to improving biodiversity (for example, by changing methods of cultivation) and the economic situation of small farmers through equitable prices and local development projects.
